Are there special laws that govern the trucking industry?

All trucking companies and their drivers are regulated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Regulations. All commercial trucks are required to carry at least one million dollars in insurance. No driver is permitted to operate a vehicle while tired or impaired (FMCSA 49 U.S.C. 392). Drivers are regulated to a certain number of hours they may drive (FMCSA 49 U.S.C. 395).
