Robert A. Melton

Robert Melton is an Associate at McEldrew Young representing whistleblowers in False Claims Act litigation and tips under the SEC and CFTC whistleblower programs.

Robert is an experienced entrepreneur and businessperson that is able to put clients at ease with his wide array of business knowledge.  He has been interviewed, quoted or his work otherwise recognized on business, real estate and law topics by multiple publications, including the Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, Miami Herald, Los Angeles Times blog L.A. Land, Accounting Today, New Jersey Monthly, Chesapeake Family, GMAT Free, Care.com, Investing Answers, Health Institute STL, Hire an Esquire, The Fiscal Times, Curbed LA, Zillow Porchlight, Burbed, Real Estate Tomato, National Real Estate Investor (Traffic Court), WJAR NBC (Rhode Island), Technically Philly, ChicagoNow, and Mogul Meals.  His startup was recognized as a Philadelphia Startup of the Week by Philadelphia Startup Digest and his company was a member of the first class of the Philly Startup Leaders Accelerator. He subsequently co-organized the program for a year during a leadership transition.  Robert has spoken to students at both the University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia University on starting businesses.

Prior to law school, Robert was an options trader for Botta Capital Management.  He worked as a market maker on the floor of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange after training as a clerk at the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE).

Robert’s work at McEldrew Young involves representing whistleblowers.  He has worked with employees and ex-employees at some of the world’s largest corporations to alert the U.S. government to fraud and other violations of the law. Robert’s securities knowledge and business savvy is regularly complimented by clients as they attempt to navigate the tricky waters of whistleblowing.

Robert is a debater at heart nicknamed the “Contrarian” during high school for always pointing out the opposite side of a statement.  During college at Cornell University, he traveled the country extensively on the policy debate team.  He was named an Academic All-American by the Cross Examination Debate Association and competed at the prestigious National Debate Tournament.  During law school, he volunteered from time to time at Eastern Michigan University to assist with Lincoln-Douglas debate.  Through this activity, Robert gained extensive knowledge in the arts of persuasion, research and communication.

Robert is a cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan Law School where he was named to the Order of the Coif.  Prior to joining McEldrew Young, Robert spent six years working on large cases dealing with pharmaceutical and securities litigation.
